My Guarantee

If you seriously want to get the flu, I have a guaranteed way to make it happen. Buy new equipment. Inevitably, some evil fate will befall you and stop you from breaking it in for a week or two. In my case, it was a cold followed by a flu -- source to be determined, but I will kill whoever gave it to me!

I am very excited about my new wheels, bearings and knee pads and feel confident that after I get over this sick spell I'm gonna be kicking ass. My old wheels were basically bare on the grip, so no wonder I was sliding out on the corners! Even cleaning them before every practice, they still had no traction on our cement floor. My new wheels are Flat Outs in red. They rock, and I put Bones Reds bearings in them. The quality of these bearings is contested, but I say why fight popularity? I also finally got a good quality set of plus-size knee pads.

Finding knee pads for derby as a big girl is, ahem... a big challenge. I got a pair of XL 187s. I really appreciated the measurements of the knee being made available on the site I bought them from  (www.roughhouseskates.com) and they have a removable gel pad to make it easier to wash. Also, they have two sets of straps to make them extra good in their stay-put capacity.

What I'm suffering from right now is derby envy. This must be a tiny sample of what it's like to be pregnant when you're a rollergirl. I hate seeing posts from other gals excited about practice when I can't go. What is really getting under my skin is seeing posts about going to bouts, kicking each others' asses, and I'm still Fresh Meat and don't get to do that stuff yet unless it's in a scrimmage. Boo hoo. I'm getting really antsy about my skill level and as soon as my lungs will let me, I'm gonna push my body to the limit. The new equipment was good on its test run, but I only used it for one practice and not very much because my lungs were ACHING and I couldn't get any oxygen to my muscles so they were CRAMPING, making me look like the giantest pussy known to man.

Watch out Mirambo. As soon as I am better, I am coming to re-break your arm, ha ha ha.
