A Not So Awesome Injury

When Autumn Von Rotten threw Elle Boes into me last night, I hit the cement with a thud. My elbow screamed at me, and I said "that's a toaster" (meaning, I'm toast). I got off the track for a drill, then de-pussified and went back on to skate. I thought I was fine until I took off my cheap ass elbow pad. Then...owwwww! It really hurt.

Today I couldn't extend it all the way or flex it. My worst fear was that I had fractured my elbow, and after my long absence due to illness, I would have to be laid up with a cast. Or--worse--I would have made such a fuss over nothing, and find out I am just a wiener.

Well, it's a little of column A and a little of column B. After three hours at Urgent Care, they tell me it is just a sprain. On the one hand, I'm totally disappointed not to have a cool injury. On the other, I'm super happy not to have to miss practice. I found it very amusing to sort of see myself enjoying being at the hospital, telling the nurses about derby and how I hurt myself. The doctor asked with concern if I had hit my head--but maybe that says more about my weird personality than anything else, ha ha. I assured him I'd been wearing a helmet.

The diagnosis is simple: Advil and ICE. And new elbow pads.

I have a word of advice for all rollergirls. Spend the money on pads. It's worth every cent.
