Juliette Lewis

I bought my tickets to see Juliette perform months ago, when I was still pregnant. I wasn't sure how I would feel about leaving my baby at home at two months of age, but in the end I'm so glad I went out. It was my first big excursion since Jack came along. He was safe at home last Sunday night with Daddy and my hard-earned pumped milk, and I headed out to meet a bunch of LOCO girls at Call the Office.

When you spend all day at home with your baby looking at the same four walls, it can be nerve wracking to go out. I spent way too long getting ready when I should have just thrown on a tee shirt and jeans, even though I think I looked pretty good in my jumpsuit and my hair all done up. I got there around 7 pm with a non-derby friend and her buddy Paul, and met up with Smashley Judd, Mean McLean, Vegas, AssaCin and Chlorine Clementine, later joined by Betty Bones and Angie. There were probably more of us there, so if you don't see your name here, my apologies. It was great to stand out on the patio, have a cold beer and a dirty cigarette and feel like I was 21 again.

Let me be perfectly honest, I was nervous when I saw the gang of Forest City Derby Girls. They looked awesome in their derby gear, just as I expected, representing their sport to see 'Iron Maven' perform live. I didn't know what to expect, but they were really friendly. Back Alley Sally had seen my post that mentioned my dream about her (and looking back, I do blog about her a lot! but I swear, I'm not a creeper!), and seemed determined to make my dream come true, as cheesy as that sounds. After the show we all hung out and swapped funnies. Killson and I talked about breastmilk, and Mirambo and I screamed over how amazing it was that Juliette pulled her up on stage! In the bathroom we made fun of the "hover-shits" -- really, who tries to hover and shit at the same time? By midnight, we were dancing together, beers in the air, cheering on some major grinding derby booty. I even got rubbed up on by CommieKaze.

Who knows what to make of that? All the derby girls were out, and they were all getting along. There were hugs and smiles, and I even got my ass pinched. At the very least, I think I can say that we can put our differences aside and be civil. I hope that in the future we'll be able to work together, cross-promoting and bringing derby to a whole new level in London, Ontario.

And since I know that Back Alley is totally going to read this (who's the creeper now? he he), let me give a shout to FCDG, Juliette and the future of derby in London, Ontario.
