Burly Caps Rule

Check it out! I got white caps for my 187 knee pads!

They're made by a Canadian guy and you can buy them here: www.burlycaps.com. You can use them on 187s, Boneless, Scabs, Fatboy and Pro Designed knee pads, and he'll send them to you for $30 including shipping. Now, some of you might be intimidated by the idea of changing up pad caps, so here are some photos to show you how easy it is.

Here's how my pads looked at the beginning. There's black duct tape on them -- I was experimenting, since the hockey tape meant that my pads didn't slide, but I needed to stop them from marking the floor.  Just so you know, black duct tape marks the floor too. I don't know what I was thinking.

The caps have velcro on them that attaches to the pads. The pads have a nifty velcro surface.

Peel 'em off carefully though, because the strips of velcro tend to want to come off the back of the cap.

Voila! White caps are becoming popular in derby -- they satisfy the requirements of picky rink owners and keep floors nicer. You can also buy Scabs, but they fit small and most women over a size 10 have trouble with them -- they're really designed for skinny boys. I found white caps for 187s on the Sin City skate website too, but they were very expensive for shipping. What I love about the Burly Caps is that they are Canadian made and work so well for so many different types of pads. The guy emailed me and said he would even do bulk deals for derby teams.

I'll let you know how they slide after practice tomorrow!
